Two notes: don’t be shy about sharing one entrée between two people. And at Laser Wolf, which was created by Philadelphia celeb chef Michael Solomonov, the culinary pleasure is heightened by the fact that you’re dining on a rooftop with awe-inspiring views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline. That is followed by meats, seafood, or vegetables seared over very hot charcoal (in this category, Laser Wolf’s BBQ short rib is such a knockout it often runs out early in the evening). The meal starts with a generous included array of salads and spreads at Laser Wolf, it’s a large platter topped with 11 metal cups of different sorts of veggie treats, from mushroom salad with sour cherries and chard, to a comforting Yemenite potato salad, to babaganoush, pickles, and more. ![]() But more than that, feasting at one is just so darn fun. But hey, take my advice with a grain of salt and try it for yourself- it might just be your new favorite place.If we’re lucky, sometime in the near future people across the USA will exclaim, when it’s time for dinner, “Hey, let’s go to a shipudiya tonight!” That’s what folks in Israel do, because this type of eatery is as ubiquitous there as American diners are here. It’s not necessarily a no-go, but I will say it’s overrated. I will note that the view was gorgeous, and the restaurant’s decor was aesthetically pleasing. For a restaurant as hyped up as Laser Wolf, I wish that they had more than 3 good menu items. ![]() Considering the restaurant’s location in Williamsburg, there are better restaurants around the corner. In my opinion, Laser Wolf is nothing special. I wish they had done it without tahini- it overtakes the other sweet flavors, turning a fantastic ice cream into one big flop. Maybe my flavor profile is not advanced enough, but this was a weird combo for me. While the fries were really good, they weren’t worth their $14 price tag.ĭessert comes with every skewer ordered- a brown sugar soft serve topped with tahini drizzle, sesame seeds, and sour cherries. Still, this batch was perfectly crisp and salted just right, and served with a side of the fanciest ketchup ever. Both of these items were average at best. The eggplant was well-cooked, but it was lacking in flavor. Rather than being crispy on the outside, the cauliflower was chewy and tasted almost charred. I am a major cauliflower fan, but the shawarma spiced cauliflower was too dry and too bland. The restaurant served vegetarian skewer options as well: cooked eggplant with walnuts and shawarma spiced cauliflower- I tried both, and they left much to be desired. I will admit- the lamb and the chicken are perfectly cooked and seasoned. laser wolf is a 'shipudiya' or 'skewer house,' a pillar of israeli life. As the doors open, the music and chatter of the busy restaurant echoes through the hall. Chef Michael Solomonov may be opening his first full-service restaurant in New York, but Brooklyn is familiar turf. Upon walking into the dim-lit, quiet lobby of the Hoxton Hotel, diners are swiftly led up a small elevator to the top floor.
